Le monument

At dawn on June 9, 1944, the inhabitants of the hamlet of Noiret, where we are located, were rudely awakened by the Germans surrounding the village and searching the houses. They learned of the arrest of Marcel CHALLANDE, a forester, and three of his workers: Clément BROISIN, Robert Léon PERSOUD and Raymond RAPHIN…

They were held prisoner at the Saint François school in Annecy, and then shot on 15 June 1944 in Sacconges, in the commune of Vieugy, now part of Seynod. All were executed without questioning or trial, leaving behind three widows and eight orphans, two of whom were born after their father's death.

Initially buried in a communal grave in the Vieugy cemetery, their bodies were brought back to Cruseilles on 22 October 1944, when a formal funeral was held.

On 26 August 1945, a stele was unveiled to commemorate their sacrifice, as well as that of another young man from the village, Albert Parchet, who was shot in Bron on 19 August 1944.

The stele in front of which we are gathered originally stood on the edge of the RN201. It has been moved several times due to the road being modified, most recently in 2011 during work on the A41 motorway.

Thanks are due to the municipality of Cruseilles, which enabled and facilitated the creation of this beautiful monument. It honours the memory of these innocent victims and serves as a reminder of the importance of remembrance.
